New Bedford and Dartmouth Task Force Host Overdose Awareness Day

The Greater New Bedford Opioid Task Force, Fairhaven Opioid Task Force and Dartmouth Advocates for Addiction, Recovery & Treatment (DAART) are collaborating to host an event to honor Overdose Awareness Day.

It will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 5:30 to 8 p.m., at Dartmouth Memorial Stadium Field, 400 Slocum Road, Dartmouth.

The purpose of the evening is to allow loved ones to remember and grieve those they have lost to overdoses and acknowledge the impact their passings have had on the family and friends they left behind.

As serious as this awareness is, this will still be a fun-filled family day with food, music, guest speakers, activities and resources. There will also be a support system available to all who attend and could use a helping hand.

During even the toughest of times, it's good to know that there are people in this world who are looking out for others besides themselves. These local task forces and organizations have teamed up to better the community and provide answers and strength for those who are too weak or hesitant to get help.

The stigma is real and, unfortunately, hurting the families who have lost special people.

This is a free, all-ages event.
