Mayor Jon Mitchell is turning to someone he knows well, to develop the offshore wind industry in New Bedford.

The Mayor announced Tuesday, he was naming Economic Development chief Matt Morrissey to head the New Bedford Wind Energy Center, the entity created by the city to oversee offshore wind-related development.

Morrissey has been working with state officials for several years on the Marine Commerce Terminal Project, now under construction in the South End.

He also led a fact-finding mission to Europe, so local officials could learn more about the offshore wind industry there.

Morrissey will be replaced at the E-D-C by Derek Santos, the agency's Director of Operations.
