Niche is completing orders on existing military contracts, but with no additional contracts in sight, the company has been forced to layoff a large number of workers.

188 non-union general manufacturing and labor employees were laid off Wednesday, with twelve more to be laid off on February 19.

The City of New Bedford and the Greater New Bedford Workforce Investment Board are providing response services, guiding laid-off workers through the unemployment process, and working with service providers like NSTAR to receive extra assistance.

In a letter to the Mayor, Niche says the company will continue to attempt to obtain additional contracts and new business.
