More Drivers Surfing While Driving Than Ever
According to an article in USA Today, more and more drivers on America's roads are surfing the web while driving. We all know the dangers of texting and driving and what can happen while doing that. Now with more people owning 'Smart Phones' that have the ability to surf the web and the ability to check email, they not only text while driving but check the email or surf the web, which is causing more distracted driving accidents. According to the article nearly 25% of drivers admit to surfing the web while driving, of the 18-29 year old's surveyed almost 50% of them admit to surfing while driving! This could be making our roads more and more dangerous than ever. A study done by Road and Driver, found that you have a faster reaction time when you are legally drunk than when you are texting or surfing while driving. That is shocking! They also found that if you are texting it could take your eyes off the road for almost five seconds, that's about the time it takes to travel the distance of a football field going 55 miles per hour. I don't know what the solution to this problem is, but I don know that it is only going to get worse. The company's that design these 'Smart Phones' should be working on new technology that takes the phones out of our hands while driving and still give the ability to stay in contact with our texts and email. Sad to say after all once someone starts texting or surfing while driving they won't stop.
