BOSTON — Today, Senate Assistant Majority Leader and Rules Committee Chairman Mark C. Montigny (D-New Bedford) announced that New Bedford-based employers will receive over $575,000 in workforce training funds from the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

The four grants, totaling $576,271, will help train 329 workers and help create up to 31 jobs by 2020.

Funded by employer contributions to the unemployment insurance program, the Workforce Training Fund assists employers in improving productivity and competitiveness. Training funds can be used for both current and newly hired employees.

“Access to proper training is a vital link between local companies and gainful employment in our community,” said Senator Montigny. “With this training, we hope to see new opportunities for existing workers and job seekers alike, as we seek to continue the revitalization of the New Bedford economy.”
