Mayor Jon Mitchell says he wants groups seeking to open a medical marijuana facility to come in with business plans and other information, like other companies do when eyeing New Bedford.

Speaking on his weekly radio program on WBSM, Mitchell says he met with one of those groups this week, and has another meeting scheduled with a second group.

At least some city councilors think Mitchell is worried about New Bedford becoming the capital of marijuana in Massachusetts, and is ignoring possible job and revenue benefits.

The Mayor denies that, but says companies must produce appropriate business and security plans before they get his endorsement.
