New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell has announced his appointment to replace the City's outgoing DPI Commissioner.

Mitchell says he has chosen Deputy Commissioner Euzebio "Zeb" Arruda to step into the chief position of the Department of Public Infrastructure to replace Ron Labelle, who retired at the end of June.

Arruda has been with DPI for 18 years, with three years under his belt as Deputy Commissioner. Arruda tells WBSM News one of his short term goals is to implement an efficient paperless system that will streamline the process of getting a job started. "The work order system will go directly to their iPads. They go out to the jobsite, they fill out the work order right on the iPad. All that information gets sent electronically back to the department and to the respective areas that need all of that information," explains Arruda.

Arruda will oversee the completion of several major projects that are ongoing in the city, in addition to starting new initiatives.

Arruda's appointment will be up for confirmation at next week's City Council meeting.
