Mitchell Reaffirms Commitment To Renewable Energy

The Mayor of New Bedford is restating the city's commitment to local action on renewable energy and addressing climate change.

Mayor Jon Mitchell announced Thursday that he's joined the Compact of Mayors, a global coalition of city leaders who have pledged to reduce their community's greenhouse gas emissions, track their progress and prepare for the effects of climate change.

Mitchell says "I feel strongly that our community should do our part to help address a global threat." The Mayor adds, New Bedford is taking seriously its sustainability challenges.

New Bedford is already considered a national leader in the use of solar power, and is aggressively seeking a role in offshore wind development.

New Bedford also has the largest municipal electric car fleet in the Commonwealth.
