Country music legend Merle Haggard is dead. He passed away today on his 79th birthday.

Haggard was recently treated for pneumonia. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1994. Three years later, he was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame.

The music legend is best known for songs including "Okie From Muskogee" and "Fightin' Side Of Me." Haggard won a slew of awards over his career, including a Kennedy Center honor and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Some of country music's biggest stars are expressing their sorrow at the death of Merle Haggard. Brad Paisley said on his Twitter account that there are no words to describe the loss and sorrow felt within all of music.

Dierks Bentley tweeted "literally just fell to the floor, can't believe we lost the hag."

Sheryl Crow wrote that the world will not be the same without the music legend. Jake Owen tweeted "no wonder it's raining today, even God is crying."  (Metro News Networks)
