With our Spring Hunger Heroes food drop coming up on Saturday, March 23, we have been busy getting the word out. We are so excited that the folks at Mediterranean Fine Foods heard about our food drive and decided to roll up their sleeves and help out. They asked us what we needed, so we turned to our partners in the Hunger Heroes Food Drop, United Way of Greater New Bedford.

Mediterranean Fine Foods is the company that produces and distributes Amaral's Sausage. All of the linguica, chourico, and cacoila that gets made at the Mediterranean Fine Foods world headquarters is produced in New Bedford. When it was all said and done, Mediterranean Fine Foods packed 51 cases of Amaral's Sausage, consisting of a whopping 765 pounds of meat.

"We couldn't be happier," said UWGNB Vice President of Marketing and Community Engagement Victoria Grasela. "Donations of meat are few and far between. When we see it at our local food banks people just love to see us coming with meat."

United Way of Greater New Bedford plans to start deliveries of the Amaral's products on Monday. "A lot of people on the SouthCoast love chourico. They will be going crazy for this. It'll be a real treat. They will be thrilled to get it."

READ MORE: Dartmouth Aldi Will Host Spring Hunger Heroes Food Drop March 23

If you can help our Hunger Heroes Food Drop, we'd appreciate it. We'll be in the parking lot outside of Aldi at Dartmouth Mall on Saturday, March 23, 10 a.m. to noon. We are specifically trying to pull together kid-friendly meals to fill the void left while the kids are on April school vacation.

Too many SouthCoast children are not sufficiently nourished during school vacation weeks. The students who normally eat breakfast and lunch at school face hunger during the break. Donating items such as mac and cheese, granola bars, peanut butter, jelly, and other healthy snacks would be ideal.

If you can't make it to the food drop, you can text "HUNGERHEROES" to 26989 to donate any amount.
