Measles Case Prompts Concern On Martha’s Vineyard
Massachusetts health officials said a child visiting Martha's Vineyard has the state's second case of the measles this year.
The state's public health commissioner, Dr. Monica Bharel, said a widespread outbreak is unlikely but urged everyone to confirm that they have been immunized.
The health department said the child was infectious from June 8 through June 17. The child visited West Tisbury Public Library, Aquinnah Library, Martha's Vineyard Airport Laundromat, Sharky's Cantina and Ryan's Family Amusements.
Officials didn't release the child's identity or details about the other case this year.
Martha's Vineyard Hospital will offer free immunizations on Wednesday.
Health officials warn that measles is very contagious. Early symptoms resemble a cold or flu, but a skin rash occurs two to four days later.
