Governor Deval Patrick has accused New Bedford Mayor John Mitchell of misrepresenting his administration over the issue of what name should be on the Marine Commerce Terminal Project.

The Governor says the terminal was never given a formal name therefore it can't be renamed.

However, the Mayor says for the past three years the Governor's administration used the New Bedford name on various media releases and is trying to shift the blame following a public outcry.

The remarks from the Governor were included in a letter sent to the New Bedford City Council Tuesday.

The Governor also said that only the legislature has the official authority to name the terminal. Senator Mark Montigny said Wednesday, he and the local delegation have filed a bill to officially name the Terminal, the New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal.
