Genoveva "Gen" Andrade, the former Chief of Staff for Mayor Jasiel Correia in Fall River, is now joining the mayor in facing federal charges related to extortion.

Andrade, a resident of Somerset, was indicted this past week on six counts by a federal grand jury.

Andrade faces two counts of extortion conspiracy, two counts of aiding and abetting extortion, bribery and making false statements to investigators.

According to the Herald News, Andrade and Correia conspired to extort a six-figure bribe from a prospective marijuana vendor looking to do business in Fall River, and a second bribe in exchange for a permit to activate a building sprinkler system.

Andrade will be arraigned in federal court in Boston on Wednesday, October 2.
