Mattapoisett’s Rustico Closing Its Doors
It's been a tough week for SouthCoast restaurants.
First, we heard the news that one of New Bedford's favorite breakfast spots, Mimi's Kitchen, was getting out of the business.
Then, we broke the news that New Bedford's most popular Italian restaurants had been sold. Carmine's final weekend was this past weekend. New ownership will reopen the restaurant around Thanksgiving as Candela Cucina, or "Kitchen Candle" (a nod to Candleworks).
They say things come in threes, so here's some sad news from Mattapoisett that broke last night: ownership at Rustico has made the announcement that they are closing the doors to the restaurant.
"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closure of Rustico after two wonderful years of being a part of the community."
In a Facebook post, the restaurant said that even though they had a passion for serving up exceptional food and drinks, "the current economic challenges have made it unfeasible for us to continue operating."
If you haven't had a chance to get to Rustico lately, you will be able to have one last hurrah if you'd like.
"This will be our final week, and we sincerely hope you'll join us one last time to enjoy your favorite meal and see the familiar faces of your favorite bartenders and servers," the restaurant wrote.
The restaurant also announced that it is officially for sale, saying there would be an opportunity for a partnership or an outright sale. The business had been a pizza shop and a sit-down restaurant.
