It was a big weekend for Ryon Thomas. The 2021 Old Rochester Regional High School graduate was invited to work out with the New York Jets after impressing the team at a Pro Day last week.

Local Day, Big Opportunity

The Jets held a "local day" workout where standout talent from the New Jersey area were invited to get face time with team officials and showcase their skills. Only 40 players received the invite.

Cameras followed Thomas and the other prospects, recording their every move. Thomas, who worked out right in front of Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn, told The MGM Show that he was pretty satisfied with his performance.

"I would have taken back maybe five out of the 50 throws I had on Saturday," he said.

Face Time With the Jets

Thomas got a 90-minute sit-down with Jets Offensive Coordinator Tanner Engstrand, along with Jets Quarterbacks Coach Charles London and his assistant.

The New York Jets' indoor facilities were described as "sick" by Thomas, who graduates from Fairleigh Dickinson University next month, earning Offensive Player of the Year at FDU for his contributions as the school's starting quarterback.

Combine Numbers That Turned Heads

Thomas' performance at a recent Pro Day earned him the workout with the Jets. His numbers in the L drill, the 5-10-5 shuttle run, the 40-yard dash, and the vertical jump bested nearly every elite quarterback prospect that participated in the official NFL Combine. In fact, Thomas' shuttle run time of 4.02 was faster than any athlete at the NFL Combine.

You read that correctly: none of the Division I NFL prospects had a better shuttle run than the Mattapoisett native.

Thomas said that when he first ran the shuttle run, there was some question about whether or not the clock was accurate. They asked him to run it again, and he got the same results.

Signed With an Agent

Thomas signed with an NFLPA-approved agent over the weekend. What's next?

"It's out of my control now. We just sit back and let my agent get the feedback from the scouts and see what happens after the draft," he said.
