Mattapoisett is special. If you don't believe us, just check the yellow bumper stickers around town.

While its residents embrace and support their beloved local businesses, there isn't an abundance of choices for places to spend money in town.

Mattapoisett keeps the reigns tight on business, and that's exactly the way residents like it. For example, when' Dunkin finally came to town years ago, it took an act of Congress to get a drive-thru approved for people to get their iced coffees and munchkins.

That's why it is such a big deal when a retail property like The Ropewalk plaza goes up for sale.

The Ropewalk is right in the center of town on Route 6, right across the street from the post office. It is a prime location.

The centerpiece of the retail center is a restaurant called Walrus & Captain. The owners of the restaurant, Kate and Michael Sudofsky, also own The Ropewalk and have decided to put the property up for sale.

It's a rare opportunity to buy retail space in Mattapoisett.

The real estate listing says the Ropewalk was built over 100 years ago, in 1920. Kate Sudofsky told us that the building used to house the Big 3 Hardware Store back in the 1940s. It was renovated and launched as a shopping center in 1984.

How much would it cost to get such a desired piece of property in this upscale town?  Just shy of $2 million. Honestly, for 11,000 square feet of retail in the center of Mattapoisett, that's an attractive price.
