If you or your children grew up in Mattapoisett, there is a good chance they know Mrs. Moncevitch. She was a beloved art teacher for 10 years before becoming a third grade teacher for 20 years at Center School.
Luice Moncevitch taught at Center School from 1971 through 2001, then volunteered there for the first five years of her retirement. She was known for her incredible display cases and her work on the third grade play creating theatrical sets and shows.
"Others may remember being benched at recess," joked her children, Kent, Kristen and Hilary.

Whatever your memories of Mrs. Moncevitch, her kids are looking for you to share them as they prepare for her 90th birthday party. If you happen to have photos of yourself (either current photos or as a child) or any pictures from some of the old days at Center School, the Moncevitch family is hoping you'd be willing to share them.
Her daughter Kristen, who recently moved back to Mattapoisett, said she is continually amazed by the number of former students that see her mother out and about in town and talk to her about how she helped shape their lives.
The family is requesting people to email memories and pictures to moncevitch90@gmail.com. They'll use them to put together a book that will document the legacy of their mom. Mrs. Moncevitch's 90th birthday is coming up on November 15, so they'll need those photos and memories emailed by October 30 in order for them to have time to have the photo book published.
Also very important: if you happen to see Mrs. Moncevitch out and about in Mattapoisett Village, please remember that this is a birthday surprise.
Mrs. Moncevitch will celebrate her milestone birthday with a small dinner surrounded by her family.
