Mattapoisett Homeowner Offers Home to People Without Heat or Power
As the SouthCoast continues to recover from the historic Blizzard of '26, a Mattapoisett homeowner is offering up her home as a shelter for anyone who's home is still without heat or power.

The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, grew up on Baker Lane. She told us that the idea came after speaking with her sister, who still lives in the Mattapoisett community.
“My sister said there were people without power, and the house is just sitting empty,” she said. “I thought, why not offer it? It is better than someone being stuck in the cold.”
Why She Offered Her Vacant Home
The Baker Lane home was originally purchased as an investment property with the long term goal of possibly moving there one day. For now, it remains vacant, making it an ideal temporary refuge for someone in need.
“I do not like to do things for recognition,” she said. “It is just the right thing to do. That is how our parents raised us. If you have something and someone else needs help, you help them.”
Located between Oxford Creamery and Ned's Point, the quiet Baker Lane neighborhood has seen its share of historic snow totals this week. While most people have had their power restored, there are still many on the SouthCoast who are still dealing with outages.

The SouthCoast Recovery Is Still Not Over
Some homes across Mattapoisett and the SouthCoast remain without reliable heat. The homeowner said the offer still stands for anyone in a difficult situation.
“There was someone tagged in the post, but I have not heard back,” she said. “I know there are still people who need a place. This storm is not fully resolved yet, even days later.”
She acknowledged there is always some risk in opening her home to others, but believes the goodwill of the community outweighs those concerns.
“I would want someone to do the same for my family,” she said. “There are still good people out there, and sometimes you just have to trust that.”
A Reminder That Kindness Still Matters
The homeowner requested anonymity, not out of fear, but out of humility.
“I am not looking for a pat on the back,” she said. “I am doing it because it is the right thing to do.”
