Mattapoisett Fire Destroys Route 6 Business
MATTAPOISETT — A fire that ripped through a Route 6 business in Mattapoisett this morning has left the building "a total loss," according to Mattapoisett Fire Chief Andrew Murray.
Firefighters were called out to Mattapoisett Power Equipment at 8:36 a.m. Monday, arriving just two minutes later, Murray said.
But when they arrived the garage was already fully engulfed in flames, made worse by the heavy fuel load from machinery at the equipment rental company.
Three people were safely evacuated from the premises, the fire chief said.
Marion, Rochester, and Fairhaven Fire Departments assisted at the scene.
It took crews around 45 minutes to put out the blaze, and they remained on scene through the morning to overhaul the building.
Icy conditions from the water used to extinguish the fire also led to MassDOT sanding nearby roadways.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
