Mattapoisett Boat Fire Damages House
Nobody was hurt Sunday evening when a boat stored in a Mattapoisett driveway caught fire and the flames spread to the side of a nearby home.
Crews quickly knocked down the fire on Church Street and prevented it from entering the inside of the building.
Two people inside the house, along with their three dogs, escaped unscathed but "shaken up" with help from the Mattapoisett Police Department, according to neighbor Penny Cole. Cole said on Facebook that she was walking by the house, saw the boat fully engulfed in flames, and quickly notified police.
Chief 1, Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 4, Unit 1 and Forestry 1 responded to reports of a fully involved boat fire that had extended to a house, according to Mattapoisett Fire Rescue. Mattapoisett police shut down Church Street while crews were operating.
No word yet on the cause of the fire.
