MassDOT Releases Plan for Road Closures During Brayton Point Demolition
SOMERSET — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced that it will be implementing temporary brief traffic control operations on major roadways near the Brayton Point Power Plant on the morning of Saturday, April 27.
Travel on the Braga Bridge and Veterans Memorial Bridge will be stopped and there will be a rolling roadblock on portions of I-195 eastbound and westbound due to the scheduled demolition of the cooling towers on Sunday at the Brayton Point Power Plant.
Route 103 in Somerset near the towers will be closed and traffic will be detoured beginning approximately one hour before the implosion.
The traffic control operations will be used to limit the traffic on Interstate 195 on the Braga Bridge, and to open the draw span on the Veterans Memorial Bridge to help stop traffic in this area.
Drivers traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution. All scheduled work is weather dependent and/or may be impacted due to an emergency situation.
