Massachusetts Is Home to Two of the Top 100 Roller Coasters
If surfing the remote control is wearing thin and you are longing for some outdoor adventure, take heart: longer, warmer days are coming. Never one for cold, wintry weather, I look forward to what is ahead.
Summertime means hiking, beaching, kayaking and Six Flags New England. I can't wait to get active again.
Ever since I was a kid, amusement parks have appealed to me. Lincoln Park, Rocky Point, Crescent Park, Canobie Lake, Pleasure Island, Paragon Park and Riverside Park came long before I experienced "theme parks" like Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Busch Gardens and many others.
Still a kid at heart, I love the rides, including the roller coasters.

CoasterBuzz.com bills itself as a "portal to the thrills." The site is all things roller coaster and includes "The CoasterBuzz 100," a "listing of the top 100 roller coasters as decided by members of CoasterBuzz."
CoasterBuzz says, "The rankings are updated every single week, compiled by the data of our member's track records."
For the week ending February 2, 2025, CoasterBuzz members ranked two Massachusetts roller coasters pretty high in the top 100. Both of the coasters are Six Flags New England favorites.
Superman The Ride was ranked 17th by CoasterBuzz members and Wicked Cyclone was 22nd. That's pretty good considering the park has been closed since last fall.
Six Flags New England says Superman The Ride is a "Hypercoaster" that is "so intense they had to come up with a whole new category for it." Hypercoasters are the "modern breed of oversized roller coasters that are pumped up to more than 200 feet tall."
Riders travel the 5,400 length of the coaster at 77 miles per hour.
Wicked Cyclone is an "intense Hybrid coaster" made of wood and steel that stands ten stories and reaches a maximum speed of 55 miles per hour.
Both coasters are waiting for you and the roller coaster weather to arrive to show what they are made of.
A complete list of the top 100 roller coasters and other fun roller coaster stuff is on the CoasterBuzz website.
