If you need to get into the RMV in March, the earlier the better. All offices will be closing statewide for updates towards the end of the month.

According to the mass.gov website, all branches of the Registry of Motor Vehicles will be getting a new computer system...meaning every branch will have to close for updates.

The dates for the statewide system overhaul is Thursday March 22 at 7 p.m. until Monday March 26 at 8 a.m.

During that time no RMV branch or AAA location will be able to perform ANY transactions.

That means license renewals, car registration, vehicle inspections...everything.

And because it's an entire system update, AAA as well as car dealerships will be affected by the closure as well. (So you won't be able to have the dealership register your new car that weekend)

The new ATLAS system that Massachusetts is changing to is expected to make going to the RMV and using it's services online a lot quicker and easier...but first it must be installed.

The goal is to make the transition as seamless as possible, but here's everything you can't do at the RMV from March 22-March 26.
