Folks in Massachusetts love their coffee. We've told you that before, as though we had to. We've written about new store openings, seasonal coffee offerings, best-selling coffee brands, and even when your favorite coffee shops would be closed for upgrades.

As I sit here drinking coffee myself, I'll tell you a few new coffee-related facts I've uncovered. Perhaps some that you already know.

Coventry Direct reports, "People in Massachusetts also drink an average of 2.2 cups of coffee per day, tied for second most in the country." The site says, "Nationally, Americans have an average of 1.9 cups of coffee a day."

To be accurate, Coventry Direct's survey shows Massachusetts coffee drinkers average 2.18 cups per day, just behind Deleware at 2.21 cups of Joe.

Massachusetts coffee drinkers like their java a bit on the light side. The Bay State is among 15 states with the lightest coffee shade.

Boston.com cites Google research indicating that "the most popular coffee drink in Massachusetts is a latte, which is made with espresso and steamed milk."

The site says, "Four other New England states – Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Rhode Island – prefer espresso, while Connecticut prefers lattes, cappuccinos (espresso, steamed milk, and milk foam), and affogatos (espressos and ice cream)."

Coventry Direct says Massachusetts coffee drinkers tend to use less sugar than most, spend less per week on coffee purchased outside the house (about $8.53 per week), and knock off the bean juice by about 3 p.m. each day.

Dunkin' and Starbucks are still the top choices of coffee consumers in Massachusetts.
