Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is asking state lawmakers for an additional $2.7 million to hire more legal staff to sue President Donald J. Trump. Campbell has already filed 47 suits against Trump since his term began in January 2025.

No joke.

Campbell recently told the Massachusetts Legislature's Joint Ways and Means Committee, "We need every penny," according to a report from the State House News Service.

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey has submitted a $63 billion budget request for Fiscal Year 2027 that includes $86.5 million for Campbell's office, an increase of $3.2 million from the current fiscal year.

SHNS reported, "The funds would allow Campbell to hire 17 employees to support her office's seemingly constant legal battles with the Trump administration."

Campbell Has Requested Money for Trump Lawsuits Before

It's not the first time Campbell has requested additional funds to sue the federal administration. In January 2025, the A.G. requested a nine percent increase to fight Trump policies. At that time, she also told lawyers she needed "every penny" to respond to what she described as "constant cruelty" in Washington, D.C.

Campbell is not alone in her lawfare surge against the Trump White House, either.

Healey’s History of Suing Trump

In a September 2024 interview with Margaret Brennan on CBS's Face the Nation, Healey admitted that during her tenure as Attorney General, "I had to sue him (Trump) over 100 times for his lies."

Campbell said she told lawmakers last year that "the chaos from the federal administration would likely be our new normal, but what we have seen in the past year is worse than chaos. It is a total disregard for facts, process, and the rule of law."

I know many Massachusetts voters would love to see Campbell as energized about fighting for the audit they voted for, yet she continues to fight against it.

Massachusetts' 'Firsts' Other Than Thanksgiving

Massachusetts may be most famous for hosting the first Thanksgiving, but that's not the Bay State's only 'first.' Throughout the early years of America, Massachusetts was the first state to have many things we see everywhere today.
