The man who lost his legs in the Boston Marathon bombings, then helped authorities identify the suspects, is engaged and an expectant father.

Jeff Bauman and his fiancee, Erin Hurley, tell the Associated Press the baby is due July 14. They don't know if it's a boy or a girl, and they want to be surprised. They became engaged in February.

The 28-year old Bauman and 27-year-old Hurley plan to marry in 2015.

An AP photo of a badly injured Bauman being rushed away in a wheelchair became one of the most memorable images of the April 15 bombings, which killed three people. Bauman became a hero after he provided a description of one of the suspected bombers.

Bauman's memoir on his experience, called "Stronger," will be out April 8.
