Man Surrenders After Hours-Long Standoff in Wareham
WAREHAM — For over six hours, Wareham Acting Police Chief John Walcek, backed by armed officers from numerous police departments throughout the region, negotiated with a man who had barricaded himself inside his home.
Police arrived at the Tomahawk Drive home in the Indian Mound Beach neighborhood just after 8 p.m. Wednesday after receiving reports of a man inside the residence who claimed he was heavily armed.
Neighbors were evacuated as officers from Wareham, Acushnet, Taunton, Raynham, Pembroke, Bridgewater, the South East Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council, Plymouth County Sheriff's Office, and others surrounded the home and the area.

Acting Chief Walcek says he was able to get the man to agree to end the standoff at around 2:45 a.m Thursday.
The unnamed man was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital to undergo evaluation.
Police did not find any weapons inside the home.
No injuries were reported.
