NEW BEDFORD — A man has been injured in a shooting in New Bedford's South End on Wednesday night.

New Bedford Police spokesman Lt. Scott Carola said officers responded to a reported gunshot victim at Ashley and Ruth streets at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

They arrived to find a male victim who had sustained a non-life-threatening injury, Carola said.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment of the injury.

Shell casings were also found at the scene, and one parked vehicle had sustained minor damage from the gunshots, according to Carola.

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

No further details have been disclosed.
