Man Arrested in Another New Bedford Stabbing Incident

An unidentified 55 year old New Bedford man is stabbed in the abdomen outside Tony's Bar &  Grille at 118 County Street early this morning.

The victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with non life threatening injuries. Police believe the stabbing was the result of a fight between the victim and 2 other men over drugs. Police spotted the alleged suspect in the area and after a brief struggle,  he was taken into custody and positively identified by the victim.

18 year old John Lopes of Brock Ave. in New Bedford also had 4 bags of what is believed to be cocaine in his possession. The weapon used in the incident has not been found. Lopes faced assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapons and assault with intent to murder charges in district court.
