As a diner owner of 33 years, I've scoffed at the fact that restaurants can't donate perfectly good food to pantries because of the liability involved. It just never made any common sense why a dumpster was fed instead of hungry people!

That all may change if MA legislators pass House Bill 3156, which would allow restaurants to donate unused goods and food to pantries, with limited liability.

During President Clinton's administration, a similar law was adopted called the "Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act." Like HB 3156, it limited the liability of donating food to satisfy the concerns of the donors.

Imagine the common good that will be realized with the passage of this legislation. I encourage you to tell your state representative to vote for HB 3156 and pass this law as soon as possible for the sake of many hungry families.
