The campaign continues in Dartmouth schools urging students to end the use of the "r-word," but organizers would like to see all of the Southcoast get involved.

Kathleen Amaral and Marianne Santos co-chair the Special Education Parents Advisory Council in Dartmouth.

Speaking on WBSM's Taylor Cormier show, Santos said they've been distributing posters in Dartmouth schools this week, asking everyone to no longer use the words "retard" and "retarded" especially when talking about others....

Amaral describes the words as disrespectful. Their efforts are part of a national campaign entitled "Spread The Word To End The Word."

The Dartmouth Selectboard voted earlier this week to support the campaign.
