The Latin American community was well represented in New Bedford last night, with a flag raising ceremony held outside of City Hall.

Flags representing 22 different Latin American nations were displayed by youngsters, as members of the Latin American community spoke of their nations and their contributions to New Bedford.

Angie Vargas of the Puerto Rican and Latin American Art and Cultural Committee of New Bedford tells WBSM News the coming together of so many nations in one community is quite significant.

Vargas says in addition to the various art and cultural contributions to the city, the committee is working on several projects aimed at improving quality of life, including a Latin American community center in the city.
