Students at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School will no longer have to fight for elbow room when they're seated for lunch thanks to the completed addition of the Student Forum and Conference Center.

The 25,000 square foot addition officially opened Sunday, with school faculty and state officials on hand to commemorate the event.

Voc-Tech School Committee Chairman John Montigny says the $17 million project which began in October of 2013 was finished ahead of schedule and under budget.

The addition adds space to the cafeteria, includes 14 new classrooms, renovated shop areas, and updated science labs.

The newest addition was funded by the communities the school partners with: New Bedford, Fairhaven, and Dartmouth. The Massachusetts School Building Authority reimbursed the communities 80% of the overall cost.
