As debate continues over Eversource's plan to expand its LNG storage facility in Acushnet, State Representative Robert Koczera is asking for extended deadline on the public comment period.

Koczera says this would allow officials to hear from more concerned parties and would be a more typical deadline for this type of project.
"I've asked that they extend the public comment period 90 days, the other energy pipeline projects have had longer periods of time for public project I don't see why this project proposal should be any different," said Koczera.

Koczera says this would also lead to a more informed decision on the project.

"All interested parties should have an opportunity to go and review this and make their opinions known and their recommendations known," said Koczera "I think that the best proposal is the one that's informed."

In the long term Koczera also says other energy sources should be considered such as hydroelectric power from Canada and wind power which Koczera says would greatly benefit New Bedford.

"New Bedford's role would be prominent," said Koczera "we would be a staging area for the development of these wind turbines and obviously both of these sources are cleaner sources of energy and I would like to see them incorporated into our plan."

The Attorney General's Office requested a 45 day extension on the public comment period for the project.
