Keep an Eye Out For Rubber Ducks on the Taunton River This Summer
Ladies and gentlemen of the SouthCoast, if you see thousands of yellow rubber ducks in the water down by Battleship Cove, there's no need to call animal control.
On Saturday, June 4, One SouthCoast Chamber's Kickoff to Summer Duck Derby will swarm the waters of the Taunton River.
"We are so excited to be bringing the Duck Derby back to Fall River after a long hiatus," Director of Programs and Events Katie Greene said. "Many years ago, it was part of the festivities of Fall River Celebrates America, also held at Heritage State Park. This will be a fun family event and a great kickoff to summer."
Thousands of yellow ducks will be released for a race. Purchasing as many ducks as you want can give you a chance at a cash prize. First place gets $2,500, second place gets $1,000 and third place gets $500.
Come hungry because food trucks will be available in the park for families to enjoy.
Duck numbers will be given randomly and available to purchase until Friday, June 3, at noon. Ducks may be purchased on the day of the event but before the release.
The estimated release time will be around 1 p.m. at Heritage State Park.
Last but not least, I'll leave you with this:
Ernie from Sesame Street, sang: "Rubber duckie, joy of joys, when I squeeze you, you make noise, rubber duckie, you're my very best friend, it's true..."
Words of wisdom for a fun and entertaining event that could land three lucky contestants a nice little payday.
