Festival Celebrates 20 Years on the Waterfront
This year's event, presented by the One SouthCoast Chamber, is scheduled for Saturday, October 11 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. under the white tent at Pier 3 on New Bedford's waterfront.
Katie Greene, Vice President of Marketing and Events at One Southcoast Chamber, spoke this week on Townsquare Sunday about Chowderfest and what's happening at this year's event.
"We have restaurants from all over the SouthCoast taking part in our event, and competing in three different categories," she said. "There's a clam and seafood chowder category, then there's Portuguese specialty, and finally signature soups, and that can be anything."
Chowderfest Competitions and People’s Choice Awards
Judges will taste-test the soups and award prizes, and so will the public. Those attending Chowderfest can sample chowders and soups and vote in various categories in what's called the "People's Choice" awards.
"There are 14 restaurants taking part this year," Greene said. "Some of these restaurants go all out, decorating their tables, adopting themes for the day. It's a lot of fun, and the winners have bragging rights for the next year. It's a great marketing tool for them."
Live Entertainment at Pier 3
There will be entertainment throughout the afternoon with live music by Be Kind Rewind.

"We have people who come from all over for this event," Greene said. "They come from north of Boston and other parts of the country. Let's face it, there's nothing like a bowl of New England clam chowder to make your day!"
How to Get Chowderfest Tickets
Tickets are $15 for general admission in advance, $20 on the day of the event. VIP tickets sell for $75 and include early entrance to the event at 11 a.m., a free beverage of your choice, and tastings from the Black Whale menu from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on its newly-refurbished deck.
