There have been similar investigations in Ferguson, Missouri and in Cleveland. And now, the Baltimore police department will be investigated by the U.S. Justice Department, to determine if there are law enforcement practices that are unconstitutional and violate civil rights.

The announcement came today from Attorney General Loretta Lynch.

Baltimore suffered days of unrest after the death of Freddie Gray. He died April 19 following a week in a coma after his arrest.

Federal authorities are conducting a separate investigation into the death of Gray.

Baltimore city officials last fall requested a voluntary Justice Department review of the police force. The mayor this week requested a full-fledged civil rights investigation.  (Associated Press)
