After twenty years in office, Ward 5 Councillor Jane Gonsalves says she will not seek re-election this year.

An emotional Gonsalves tells WBSM News with her full-time job in Boston, it was becoming difficult to be efficient in both her roles.

Gonsalves says she has spoken individually with her fellow councillors and City Hall staff members, who have given their support in her decision.

The Ward Five Councilor says fiscal responsibility and the lobbying for and passage of a city demolition delay ordinance are hallmarks in her political career.

Though she's proud to be the longest serving ward councillor, Gonsalves says there have been many sacrifices along the way, and she's looking forward to spending more time with friends and family.
