Move Over Lay’s, Ruffles: This Massachusetts Potato Chip Was Named the Best of All Time
Do you love potato chips? That satisfying crunch and salty goodness?
They just seem to go so well with a sandwich or maybe a cold soda or beer. Or perhaps you just love holding a big "party size" bag all for yourself while binge-watching on Netflix. We won't judge.
Yet, there's one chip that has been ranked the best of the best, and it's not Lay's or Ruffles. It's actually a chip based in Massachusetts.
Best Potato Chip of All Time
LoveFood ranked the 33 best potato chips, which included the likes of regional brands and big recognizable names.
The food guide website said its list was pulled together by looking at "reviews, accolades, and the popularity of each variety and/or brand of potato chips, taking into account sales, longevity, and the reaction to the products at the time of their release."
Yes, top dogs like Lay's and Ruffles landed top spots, three and two, respectively.
But the No. 1 potato chip was awarded to Cape Cod chips.
Cape Cod Potato Chips
According to Cape Cod Potato Chips' website, the brand was founded in 1980 and created "crunchy, delicious, unique quality potato chips." A small storefront was set up in Hyannis, Massachusetts, and the chips soon became pretty popular.
Boston Magazine said that Cape Cod chips used an old-fashioned kettle-cooking method to get their signature crunch and golden, twisted shape from thick-cut potatoes stirred by hand in hot oil.
Fun fact: the lighthouse seen on the chip bags is a nod to the Nauset Lighthouse in Eastham, Massachusetts, according to Mashed.
