Westport Cow Finds Forever Home—Now Needs Help Keeping It
Runaway cows are nothing new on the SouthCoast. Over the years, Fun 107 has shared plenty of stories of loose livestock in Fairhaven, Raynham, Dartmouth, and Rochester—but this latest one out of Westport might have the happiest ending yet.
A Cow on the Move in Westport
Earlier this week, residents were asked to keep an eye out for an escaped red heifer spotted on Division Road. The young bovine appeared to be heading toward Dartmouth and was eventually seen grazing near Nerd Herd Sanctuary on Slocum Road.
But she wasn't ready to be caught just yet.

A Night Spent Dodging Capture
According to the sanctuary, the crafty cow spent the night evading capture by hiding in tall grass or drifting into nearby woodland under the cover of darkness.
By the next day, though, her journey seemed a little more intentional.

Staff found her resting next to a pasture fence, as close to the sanctuary's herd as she could get. From there, they carefully guided her inside the pasture—and what happened next amazed everyone.
A Surprising Moment Inside the Pasture
The established herd welcomed her almost immediately.
"Within hours she was eating, drinking, playing, and resting alongside the other cows as if she had always been part of the family," staff said
Clearly the cow had chosen her new home.
Now, the sanctuary is hoping the SouthCoast community can make it official. The animal's owners have given Nerd Herd Sanctuary the option to keep her, but they need help raising the funds to make that dream come true.
How the Community Can Help
They're hosting a community naming contest, where for a $5 donation you can suggest a name for their new cow.

Every dollar raised will go directly toward purchasing and caring for this amazing animal that managed to find her own way to her forever family.
The non-profit is always collecting donations through Venmo, Facebook and PayPal and submissions for the naming contest can be submitted through those sites as well.
A Story That Feels Meant to Be
Sanctuary staff say they "have always believed that animals have a way of finding where they belong." This week they were reminded of just how true that can be.
