PLYMOUTH (WBSM) — Massachusetts State Police have issued an arrest warrant for a 20-year-old man in connection with the fatal shooting of a New Bedford resident at Myles Standish State Forest Wednesday.

Multiple witnesses described an altercation in the picnic area of the park between 25-year-old Robert Aponte-Flores of New Bedford and John Geovanni Pires Monteiro Macedo leading up to the afternoon shooting.

Aponte-Flores was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Now, police are looking for Macedo, the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office said in a news release.

Based on Facebook posts from friends and family, Aponte-Flores went by the nickname "Tito."

“This was not a random act of violence and there is no threat to the public,” Cruz said on the day of the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section at 1-800-KAPTURE.
