Attention all Target shoppers and enthusiasts: Some good news has landed on the SouthCoast that may entice you to shop more often.

Target is changing the checkout experience with "express self-checkout" across its stores. The service has officially launched at the State Road location in Dartmouth.

Those pesky long lines, waiting for what seems like a lifetime, now have a solution.

This new feature caters to customers making quick trips with 10 items or fewer, offering what's being billed as a more convenient checkout process. Admit it: You've waited in line with just two items only to be stuck behind folks with overflowing shopping carts.

Target began the process last fall, adding onto its already existing self-checkout system which has grown in popularity since the pandemic. Test stores reported remarkable results. The retailer says transactions went twice as fast compared to traditional checkout and customers reported an improved overall experience.

As of March 17, express self-checkout is available at most Target locations nationwide. Additionally, traditional lanes will still be open for those who prefer help from staff.

Store leaders can set self-checkout hours to ensure the service is available during the busiest shopping times.
