Increased recycling is one of the goals of the new trash collection system going into effect this summer in New Bedford.

New, environmentally-friendly trucks with automated arms will be used to lift trash carts containing garbage and recyclables into an on-board compactor.  The trash carts will be distributed in May.

Recycling Co-ordinator Marissa Perez-Dormitzr tells WBSM's Mid-Day Live, the days of seperating paper, glass and plastics in small blue bins will soon be over......

The new trash collection system is scheduled to begin in June in the city's North End.

City officials and ABC Disposal say the new program will mean increased recycling throughout the city, less litter on the streets, and less trash being dumped at the Crapo Hill landfill.
