Homeless Couple Arrested in New Bedford After Stolen Items Found in Shed
NEW BEDFORD - Two people are under arrest after New Bedford Police find them with stolen items in a shed.
Police were called to a disturbance at 16 McGurk Street at 2 a.m. Monday, and found two people trying to make their way into a shed at the address. Inside the shed, police found a couch, candles, and other personal belongings, along with a black canvas bag containing two Garmin GPS units and various phone chargers.
Police arrested the individuals, 34-year-old Christopher Saulnier, with a last known address in Fairhaven, and 26-year-old Stephanie Cahoon, with a last known address in New Bedford. Both claim they are homeless and had been living out of the shed.
Both have been charged with breaking and entering (misdemeanor), trespassing, and receiving stolen property over $250. Cahoon had three outstanding warrants for her arrest.
Police believe Saulnier and Cahoon may be connected to car breaks throughout the city. More charges may be forthcoming.
