A U.S. District Court Judge's controversial ruling has at least one law enforcement official up in arms.

Bristol County Sheriff Tom Hodgson is calling Judge Mark Wolfe's ruling "outrageous", after Wolfe OK'd the sex-change operation for an inmate to be funded by taxpayer dollars.

Wolfe says it's the only adequate treatment for Michelle Kosilek, formerly known as Robert, and his gender identity disorder.

Hodgson says if the judge's ruling stands, it could open up a can of worms.

Hodgson believes the State Department of Corrections should appeal the judge's decision. Kosilek is currently serving a life sentence without parole after killing his wife in 1990.
