Hodgson: Democrats Should Listen to the American People on Wall Issue
Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson says Democrats Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer are not listening to the American people when it comes to the issue of border security.
Hodgson made the remark after returning from a White House meeting Friday on securing the border.
The partial government shutdown continues as President Donald Trump holds fast on his position to build a wall at the southern border at a cost of nearly $6 billion. Democratic leaders insist they want the government re-opened before continuing discussions on border security.
Hodgson tells WBSM News the wall is a key factor in halting criminal illegal aliens from entering the country, and slowing the flow of illegal drugs into the United States.
The sheriff predicts the president will eventually get what he wants, but it won't be easy.
"It will happen when the American people tells Congress they're fed up with the politics and game-playing that's been going on for years. It's time to fund the wall," said Hodgson.
The Republican sheriff says everyone knows, including the president and the Democrats, that you don't need a wall to block the entire southern border. But he says, "The wall is a key part of the solution to illegal immigration, along with cameras, more technology, and more Border Patrol people. "
Hodgson was part of a group of law enforcement officials that met with President Trump on Friday. They urged the president not to give in to the Democrats on his wall proposal.
