The Shawmut Diner in the North End is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  USA Realty of Dartmouth is handling the sale.

Owners Phil and Celeste Paleologos have operated the diner for nearly 33 years.  The couple says the decision wasn't easy, but its time for them to move to the next phase of their lives.

Celeste expects to have some emotional discussions with long time customers....

Mrs. Paleologos says the diner has been more than just a place to work, its been an extension of their home, and she and her husband have fond memories of customers, employees and friends...

The Paleologos' say it could take nine months or longer to sell the property.

Once the diner is sold, Celeste says she hopes to have more time to join community organizations and travel.

Celeste says if someone wants to purchase just the land, then she and her husband would consider moving the diner elsewhere in the area and continue to operate it.
