Historic Romero House Opens For Tenants
Renovation of the Oscar Romero House at County and Allen Streets is now complete.
State and local officials were joined by Bishop George Coleman in cutting the ribbon Tuesday.
The $2.9 million project saves a building that was constructed in 1881, and was vacant for 18 years before the renovations began.
Catholic Social Services will manage the property. Director Arlene McNamee called the project a close call, money-wise

The apartment house contains 12 units for the poor and needy. Four of the units are earmarked for persons referred by the Dept. Of Mental Health.
More than 100 people applied for the remaining eight units. Those tenants will be selected by lottery.
