The Friends of Buttonwood Park are turning their eyes to the athletic portion of the park, and are looking to fix up the basketball courts.

The three courts are about 30 years old, and have not been upgraded in quite some time. Anne Eades, President of the Friends of Buttonwood Park tells WBSM News the basketball courts at the park see a lot of action throughout the year.

Eades says to upgrade the lighting, aprons, and surfaces of the three courts could take up to $150,000. That money will be raised through a fundraising campaign soliciting support from local residents and businesses.

The Friends hope to have construction underway during next spring and wrapping up in the summer.

The campaign is kicking off this Saturday with a walk around the park at 11am beginning at the zoo parking lot.
