A ceremonial groundbreaking on a South End pier Monday, marked the start of construction of a $100-million, Marine Commerce Terminal in New Bedford.

Gov. Deval Patrick says offshore wind projects in the U-S will create 20,000 jobs, and some of those jobs will be right here in New Bedford.

The Governor also stated his desire to get the project moving.

Patrick said later, contractors will work double shifts to meet that deadline.  When completed, the Terminal is expected to make New Bedford the "hub" for offshore wind development in the Atlantic.

Other speakers included Senator Mo Cowan, Congressman William Keating, members of the legislative delegation, and Mayor Jon Mitchell.
